Erechtheion

An intricate ancient Greek temple on the Acropolis slope dedicated to the Greek Goddess Athena.

Considered to be the most sacred building in the Acropolis of Athens, the Erechtheion was an ancient Greek temple where most religious rituals took place in worship of the King Erechtheus. Rich in Greek mythological history and legends, the Eastern part of the temple was dedicated to Athena, whilst the Western part of the temple was supposedly dedicated to the Poseidon cult, as well as a few other gods.

Made entirely out of Pentelic marble, with several engravings carved in stone, this age-old relic of a temple certainly exudes a sense of elegance and timeless beauty. One should definitely make a trip here to admire it in all its grandeur; be sure to look out for the sacred olive tree that sprouted when Athena struck her spear into a rock - a well known tale from Greek Mythology. This is a legendary visit that will be worth every bit of your time.
