Engstlensee

A hiking classic.

Bordered by stone pines and rich pastures that seem to stretch for miles, the placid deep blue waters of Engstlensee lake provide for a stunning reflection of the surrounding majestic, snow-capped mountainscape. One of the gem’s of classic Swiss natural scenery, Engstlensee is a natural lake located near the Joch Pass at an elevation of 1,850 metres, and can easily be accessed by gondola ride or by foot from Mount Titlis.

During the summer months, visitors can access the lake via local transport (i.e. by postbus) or with their own private vehicles, through the remote but very beautiful Alpine valley known as the Gen valley on the fringes of the Bernese Oberland. Perfect for the entire family, the short hike to the far end of the lake is easy enough and leads to a serene, tranquil setting amidst uniquely picturesque scenery. Here, take a dip in the refreshing waters of Engstlensee, fish, or just enjoy a lovely picnic filled with joyous fun and laughter amidst close friends and family. The remoteness of the lake makes it extra special, and provides for enough space for the kids to run around, explore and adventure.
