English Garden (Englischer Garten)

A reflection of England (and some other countries) in the heart of Germany.

The Englischer Garten may seem like your average run of the mill English park, but then again, that only applies in England. This particular garden is located in Bavaria, Germany, and it is not like most German parks at all. Created in the tail end of the 18th century, the Englischer Garten stretches out for 3.7 square kilometres, making it one of the largest urban public parks in existence! While it is a lot more cosmopolitan than the original park, what with numerous modern additions, at its core, it still remains a wonderful place for you to take a stroll and enjoy the scenery. The modern additions are nothing to scoff at either. Beer lovers may find the Beer Gardens a great place to unwind, as you can easily purchase beers here and enjoy the sun setting late in the evening. But if you want to drink during the day, no one’s stopping you either. If beer’s not your thing, then why not check out the Japanese teahouse instead? With regular tea ceremonies being held, this is an ideal place for those looking to explore inner peace, as you listen to the birds chirping amongst sips of hot green tea. But wait! There’s more to this garden then just beverages to enjoy. During your stroll, you’ll inadvertently notice a five-storey structure that is reminiscent of a pagoda. This is the famous Chinese Tower, which is meant to look like those typically found in royal Chinese gardens. It’ll give you magnificent views overlooking the park as well. Come and visit the Englischer Garten, and experience a wide host of other cultures simultaneously.
