El Museo Casa Carlos Gardel

The spirit of tango embodied in the life of one man.

Ever heard the saying ‘It takes two to tango’? With Carlos Gardel’s infectious voice playing in the background, you can practically start dancing by yourself. The French Argentine singer was the most prominent figure in the history of tango, creating hundreds of masterpieces with his three-minute recordings. Then he died in a plane crash at the height of his career, and was immortalized as a tragic figure in the minds of heartbroken fans. Today, you can visit the home where he lived as a child, which has been converted into a museum celebrating his life and career. Owned by the Gardel family, it traces the singer’s early life and roots in France and Argentina, via a rich collection of personal artifacts and memorabilia. Even if you aren’t a fan of tango, the museum is rich with cultural heritage thanks to Gardel’s influence over 20th century Argentinian culture. Listen to audio displays, video clips and even tablets loaded with all of Gardel’s discography—a total of 893 tracks. You will be mesmerized by his classic voice and songs.
