El Hank Lighthouse (Phare d’el Hank)

Enjoy a 360-degree view of Casablanca from the El Hank Lighthouse.

The El Hank Lighthouse or Phare d’el Hank is an early twentieth-century building located at Boulevard de la Corniche in Casablanca’s coastal area. It was constructed to help sailors find their way away from the shores as many used to get stuck in these sandy areas. Today, the lighthouse is open to visitors who wish to learn more about how lighthouses actually work. Actually, most people come here just to see the astounding views that the lighthouse provides. Standing at 161 metres tall, the lighthouse is perfectly poised to give you a 360-degree view of Casablanca, and if you look further, you’ll be able to bear witness to the crashing waves of blue that is the Atlantic Ocean. However, to get those views, you will need to climb up a flight of 256 steps, which might sound easy, but trust me, it’s really not. And if you were expecting the lighthouse to look like your traditional boring old Western ones, well, prepare to be disappointed (or amazed), because the top of the lighthouse is built with respect to Islamic architecture. So instead of looking like a traditional lighthouse, it resembles a minaret even more. It’s so striking that it’d be impossible to miss it, so what are you waiting for?

Tips Before You Go
Visitors should take note that you will have to pay a small entrance fee to enter the lighthouse. However, it might not be worth it for those with difficulty walking, seeing as you will need to climb all the way up to get spectacular views. It’d be a shame if all you could do here was just stand on the ground floor.
