Einstein House (Einsteinhaus)

The former residence of one of the greatest scientists of all time.

The day a man by the name of Albert Einstein heard the hypnotizing toll of the city’s clock tower was the day scientific history was re-written forever. Holed up in his residence in Bern, the man worked feverishly to develop one of the most revolutionary papers of its time – the Annus Mirabilis Papers. Now a museum open to the general public, the Einstein House is devoted to commemorating this defining moment in science, and to a collection of memorabilia dedicated to the man who completely revolutionized our understanding of space and time.

The apartment on the second floor of Kramgasse 49 offers visitors a glimpse into Einstein’s life from 1903-1905 in the heart of the charming city of Bern. History buffs and Einstein enthusiasts will fall in love with the poignantly decorated apartment, reminiscent of life back in Einstein’s time. The third floor of the museum houses Einstein’s biography and life’s work, and serves as a moving reminder of Einstein’s contribution as the greatest physicist of his time to the development of science.
