Edificio Telefonica

Standing the test of time while fighting against the norms of the times.

Standing tall at nearly 90m, the Edificio Telefonica, or Telefónica Building, was once the tallest building in the whole of Europe. Opened in 1930, this building took a page out of the American book with regards to skyscrapers. Not only did this building give Madrid a modern feel because of its appearance, but because of what went on inside. Hiring a small percentage of women to work there in a time where working women were frowned upon, the building, and Madrid as well, looked more like it was moving with the times. This skyscraper was also the target of bombings during the Spanish Civil War, due to its important role in communications. Come down and pay homage to this wonderful structure with a rich history.
