Used as a filming location for The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and the 2002 James Bond film, Die Another Day (starring Pierce Brosnan), come and find out why.
The pride and joy of Cornwall, England, the Eden Project draws many visitors from far and wide. Resembling alien-like domes in fields of green, the complex is dominated by two massive domes, constructed out of inflated hexagonal, plastic cells supported by steel frames. The larger one is a Rainforest Biome, affectionally called a “steamy supermarket” by the Eden Project Team. It houses exotic tropical plants such as banana, coffee and rubber plants while the smaller one simulates a Mediterranean environment where you can see olives and grape vines. Child-friendly services are readily available, combining learning opportunities with exciting activities.
Not just a paradise for nature lovers, the Eden Project has a few remarkable art pieces infused with messages, encouraging an understanding of the relationship between man and nature. Catch the sculpture of the gigantic bee and The WEEE Man an imposing figure constructed out of old electrical appliances, symbolising the average electrical waste generated by ourselves in our lifetime. Do not miss the intriguing driftwood sculpture of a horse by Heather Jansch at the entrance and the massive soil sculpture of Eve by Sue and Pete Hill.
