Duivenvoorde Castle

Lose yourself in this enthralling castle originating in the 13th century.

Duivenvoorde Castle is one of the oldest castles in South Holland, and it rests in rustic surroundings with a beautiful English-style park surrounding it. One of the most remarkable aspects of this castle is that it was never sold; different noble houses inherited it, although it was owned by the van Duivenvoordes (from whom the castle gets its name) for the first five centuries.

The interior of the castle has been preserved, with its numerous 17th and 18th century portraits of the families, as well as Delftware and different types of exquisite porcelain. There is something to marvel at in every corner- even the ceiling, with its secondary and tertiary wooden beams adorned with animal motifs. As you pass the central and north wings of the house, you will certainly feel as if you are visiting the nobility of the past. Unlike the typical museum, the castle is maintained in a fashion that gives you the impression that the area is still inhabited. A trip to Voorschoten will not be complete without stepping into this marvelous castle!
