Domino Park

Taking board gaming to the next level.

While exploring the Cuban neighborhood of Little Havana, you might come across Domino Park. You might be imagining the mouthwatering pizza but this has nothing to do with that. The park is a favorite amongst the elderly folk in the Cuban community. Watch them show off their prowess at the game of dominoes, and maybe join them for a game or two. Some might decide to play chess and checkers while sipping on coffee.

Although it is now popularly known as Domino Park, its official name is “Maximo Gomez Park”, after the soldier who fought for Cuban independence from Spain, and it was originally constructed with the goal of providing a meeting place for the community. If you head to the back wall, you will find an impressive mural depicting the events of the 1st Summit of the Americans in 1994 in Miami. When you’ve done your fair share of exploring the park, simply settle one to the chairs and watch the heated matches. There’s no doubt that this is a delightful way to enjoy Cuban culture!
