Derby Lane

Ever watched greyhounds race?

Romansperson / Wikimedia Commons

Located in St. Petersburg, Florida, Derby Lane is a racino (that is, race track and a casino combined), and the oldest continuously operating greyhound track in the United States. Offering 550 yards and 660 yards distances, the track is one of the few remaining greyhound racetracks. While the sport has been declining fast, Derby Lane remains as popular as ever.

Spectators can engage in pari-mutuel wagering and the track offers simulcast as well. If it has never crossed your mind to watch dogs race, then right here is your opportunity! Some of the track’s most famous patrons included baseball superstars like Babe Ruth and Pete Rose. In fact, in 2006 and 2007, the track was home to the richest greenhouse race in history. The Derby Lane Million was a stakes race and the winner took home a half a million purse! You can enjoy a buffer and place your bets right within the restaurant, or sit in the grandstand to watch the greyhounds dash past you on the track. Who knows, you might even be lucky enough to win a few dollars. Don’t miss out on this unique attraction while in Florida.
