Dee Why Rockpool

For some communities it’s a park, a library, or perhaps a local diner that draws people together. For Sydney’s north shore, it’s this public pool that does the trick.

One downside of swimming is that it can get somewhat monotonous; swimming the same laps over and over again with nothing but a blank wall to stare at and the sounds of shrill whistles and noisy water filters are synonymous with typical public pool complexes. However, this certainly isn’t an issue at Dee Why Rockpool, located at the southern end of the thriving Dee Why Beach.

The views of the majestic ocean stretching endlessly into the horizon, waves crashing into the shore, and the vast blue sky above your head make this Olympic sized pool anything but claustrophobic. Suitable for all kinds of swimmers, whether you’re there to do some hardcore laps, or just to wade in the shallows, it is a favourite spot among locals. There’s even a children’s pool designed specially for children with water shallow enough that they can splash around safely to their hearts delight. There’s no comparison between swimming in the great blue sea versus a mundane indoor pool, but since the ocean can be a little treacherous, surely this is the next best thing!
