Kuala Lumpur City, Malaysia
Dayabumi Complex

The first modern building in KL to incorporate Islamic features in its architecture.

Standing at 35 storeys, the Dayabumi Complex, also known as the Menara Dayabumi, was one of the most impressive buildings in the city when it was completed in 1984. One of its appeals – and also what makes it stand out – is the beautiful ivory Islamic designs that adorn its facade. Its unique Islamic arches, glimmering fretwork and its eight-pointed stars at the top really make this building an absolutely stunning sight to behold.

Even from a distance, you can tell that careful thought had been put into the face of this building. Though it’s been a number of years since its establishment, and the modern world has caught up, the Dayabumi Complex is still easily spotted among the skyscrapers that litter the skyline. Formerly the home of the oil company Petronas before they shifted to the Petronas Twin Towers, the Complex now houses several commercial offices within its grounds. Despite having been established for more than 30 years, the Dayabumi Complex has managed to remain one of the most iconic features of the city to this day and is a significant symbol of Malaysia’ unique blend of traditional and contemporary art.
