Dar Si Said

The oldest museum in Marrakech and possibly the largest collection as well!

Located just north of the Bahia Palace, the Dar Si Said Museum is considered to one of the oldest museums in Marrakesh. What used to be a palace with stunning Hispano-Moorish ceilings and intrinsically carved cedar woodwork now houses the Museum of Moroccan Arts. Indeed, if one did not know there was a museum inside, he/she would still visit this place just to catch a sight of this spectacular palace.

Featuring many artefacts, ranging from clothes, weaponry, copper wares, furniture and even Berber jewellery, this museum is an exhibition of Morocco’s heritage and culture. Of course, you cannot visit the Dar Si Said museum without paying homage to its finest piece of art: a mesmerizing painted and domed wedding-reception chamber accompanied by balconies boasting floral decorations. This chamber is truly a work of art, and is credited to none other than the talented artisans from Fez, who were renowned for their artistic prowess.

If you wish to get in touch with Morocco’s culture and its art scene, the Dar Si Said is truly the palce to be!
