Dar Jamai Museum

A repository of local culture.

The Dar Jamaï Museum is a rather extravagant building at first glance, initially built as a residence for the wealthy and affluent Jamaï family. Two members of the aforementioned family were even the Sultan Moulay al-Hassan I’s ministers. But besides a magnificent façade that looks somewhat out of place as compared to the rest of the buildings in the El-Hadim Square area, the interior itself is also nothing to scoff at. The walls and ceilings are adorned with zellij, with lush carpets on every single inch of flooring. But that’s not all! In each room, you will also be greeted by the sight of historical gems in the form of textiles and ceramics that date as far back as the 14th century. There are even displays of exquisite jewellery and wood carvings as well, which will give you a better understanding of the culture back then. But besides exhibits, the rooms of this former mansion have also been preserved. If you go upstairs to the harem, you will be treated to the sight of gorgeous upholstery and furniture, which was how the previous owners lived. Just be warned though, you will definitely be envious of how rich they were.
