Daio Wasabi Farm (大王わさび農場)

A haven for wasabi lovers.

Love wasabi? Then head on down to the Daio Wasabi Farm in Azumino City, Japan’s largest wasabi farm! The farm is named after an ancient local hero, Hachimen Daio, whose spirit is enshrined within the Daio Shrine, which is located inside the farm itself. Inside the farm, visitors will get to see how wasabi is cultivated, as well as explore a wide array of wasabi-related products. There are a number of shops here, including a restaurant, and they all sell unique items that involve the ubiquitous green plant. Make sure that you don’t miss out on the popular soba noodles made with fresh wasabi!

If you’re a more adventurous eater, you might want to try out the wasabi ice cream. In fact, they even have wasabi chocolate and wasabi juice if you think you’re game enough to try them. But eating is not the only thing that you can do here. There are also walking trails for visitors to see the beautiful watermills and accompanying river, as well as a spectacular view of the Alps. If you’re looking for a place to refresh yourself — taste buds included, then the Daio Wasabi Farm is the perfect place to visit.

Tips Before You Go
Entry into the farm is free, and there are usually no crowds except during Japanese holidays, so plan accordingly. Be sure to come early however, because the shops close relatively early in the afternoon. The farm itself closes early in the evening, so make sure to come as early as possible!
