Illustrating the history of Da Nang dating from prehistoric times.
Housing over 2500 historical artefacts and exhibits of Da Nang and it’s surrounding areas, history buffs and curious travellers alike will be enthralled with this artfully curated museum steeped in rich local history and culture. Founded in 1989, the museum was originally located on Le Duan Street, but subsequently relocated to 24 Tran Phu Street, culminating in it’s official reopening in 2011.
The three-storey museum provides an interesting perspective into Da Nang’s history ranging from exhibits depicting it’s prehistoric times on the first floor, to that of exhibits on local resistance to the French and American invasion during the Vietnamese war on the second floor, and finally, to exhibits showcasing the culture of Vietnamese minority ethnic groups on the third floor. Visitors interested in learning more about the Vietnamese war will be drawn to the second floor of the museum, although it might be less suitable for young children, as this level houses gory and graphic images of the horror and devastation brought about by the Vietnamese War.
