One of the most unique, pretty in pink Catholic churches in Vietnam.
Known colloquially as the Con Ga Church (Rooster Church), the Da Nang Cathedral is the only Catholic Church in Da Nang City, and is heralded as one of the most unique Catholic Churches in Vietnam due to it’s pretty, candy pink walls. Built during the French colonial period in 1923, the cathedral gets it’s colloquial name from the rooster weathercock that sits perched above the cathedral’s striking bell tower, symbolic for St Peter’s story of repentance and awakening in the Gospels. This 70m tall architectural wonder has clear Gothic influences and houses beautifully designed motifs and statues, along with medieval stained-glass windows that inspire awe and wonder in all.
Visitors should not miss the grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which lies behind the Cathedral and is a replica of the Lourdes Grotto in France. Da Nang Cathedral still functions as a church for the local Catholic community and serves as many as 4,000 devotees till this very day. Centrally located near the CBD in Da Nang, this religious site is worth a visit for all to marvel at the eloquent beauty of the Cathedral’s grand architecture. Don’t forget to climb up the bell tower to behold magnificent views of the city landscape and skyline from a peaceful vantage point.
