Cube House

You’ll feel as if you’re falling over in the tilted Cube House residential complex, one of Rotterdam’s most iconic attractions.

A chain of huge, bright yellow cubes are perched precariously above one of Rotterdam’s busiest streets. The Cube Houses are Rotterdam’s most eye-catching attraction, an architectural curiosity that has not failed to amaze passers-by and tourists for the past 40 years.


In the 1970s, architect Piet Blom was tasked by Rotterdam’s city planners to design a residential complex that would connect the two residential areas on opposite sides on the road. Blom’s solution was the series of cubic structures, tilted at an alarming angle of 55 degrees, hanging above the street. An enterprising resident has opened the Cube House Show Room for visitors to tour the residential complex as well as one of the houses, to experience what life is like literally living on the edge.
