Enter the maw of the beast as you step into Morocco’s only reptilian paradise, Crocoparc.
The first thing visitors are greeted by at the entrance of the crocodile park is the open jaws of a croc, large conical teeth set in a perfectly aligned row of sandstone. Walking through this intimidating welcome, they reach the reception area which marks the start of a trail extending slightly beyond 600m within the enclosure.
Along the way, look out for the idyllic reptilian giants, sandpaper scales basking in the heat and tranquility. The park houses over 300 crocodiles hailing from 10 different species along the Nile, placing them in landscaped habitats meant to mimic their river home. This explains the abundant fauna, shipped over from 3 of the 7 continents that add a dash of brilliant green and vibrant hues to the monotonous sand brown around. The plants themselves have a tale to tell of the land they inhabit, as detailed on the signposts set up along the trail. Specially arranged tentages and pavilions run workshops on crafts to delight the young ones while taking away a fact or two about these fearsome predators. Yet, few would believe that the tiny lizard like paddlers found in the Lab and Nursery of the park grow to the hulking, mottled green giants seen by the artificial river bank. Magnificent enclosures that aim to recreate the lost homes of these beasts and artfully landscaped pathways make Crocoparc a fitting tribute to the kings of the river.
