Contemporary Jewish Museum

A perfect place to understand Judaism in the United States.

The Contemporary Jewish Museum explores current perspectives on Jewish culture, history and ideas through exhibitions and educational programmes. Founded in 1984, the museum is housed in the former Jessie Street Substation, which had its interior redesigned by architect Daniel Libeskind (born 1946). In 2008, a new deconstructivist cube-like structure was added to the façade, which is known as the Yud, and hosts sound and performance-based exhibitions. The museum itself has no permanent collection, however, temporary exhibitions are held all year round in collaboration with other institutions. If you’ve always been intrigued by Jewish culture, then this museum is definitely a must-visit.
