Columbus Circle

Not just any ordinary intersection, but one steeped in symbolism and history.

Named after Christopher Columbus, this circle is huge with approximately 36,000 square feet in its inner circle and 148,000 square feet in its outer circle. Unlike most other junctions in the world, Columbus Circle offers something more for the visitor than just the traffic that swirls around it. The highlight of it all is the magnificent marble sculpture of Columbus standing at 21m, supported by a rostral granite column which is embellished with bronze reliefs depicting the ships of Columbus: the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María. Appreciate the intricately carved angel holding a globe on the pedestal. Columbus Circle, encircled by green shrubs is also a great place to rest on the wooden benches and enjoy the pretty Fountains of Bellagio.
