Collins Avenue

A hip street in Miami.

Collins Avenue, which is a major thoroughfare in Florida, gets its namesake from John S. Collins. He was a developer who, in the early 20th century, completed the construction of Collins Bridge, the first bridge that also connected Miami Beach to the mainland, all the way across Biscayne Bay. If you want a delightful walk, with beautiful views and historic buildings, then Collins Avenue is where you should start.

Here, down palm-lined streets, you can admire renowned hotels from the late 20th century, like the Fontainebleau Hotel and the Eden Roc. If you’re all about appreciating architecture, then the Neo-baroque style of the former hotel is immediately obvious. It is fascinating how the atmosphere continues to remind onlookers of the “in” type of architecture that was the craze of Miami Beach resorts. Not only do you get to admire the buildings but you can also enjoy the sparkle of the sea in the nearby beaches while on Collins Avenue. Settle at one of the many cafés for a quick treat and continue your walk. Undoubtedly one of the best ways to spend a day in Miami.
