Cleopatra’s Needle

A gift, a symbol of love, and a key part of history, all in one.

It is said that good things come in threes. That is certainly pertinent for Cleopatra's Needles, with one each residing in New York, Paris, and London. Standing tall and proud at 21m high and weighing a whopping 200 tons, the obelisk in New York rests in one of the city's most popular tourist spots – Central Park. The obelisk was gifted to the U.S. by the Egyptian government in 1881, but stood in Alexandra from 12BC until then, in a temple ordered by Cleopatra in honor of Marc Anthony. While the hieroglyphs were preserved well in the Egyptian weather, the New York weather has unfortunately been causing damage. Head down to Central Park to view this magnificent and integral part of human history before it is too late.
