City Hall, Haarlem

This historical seat of government has been the site of decrees and decision-making for 700 years.

The City Hall in Haarlem has been the seat of government since its construction in the 14th century, which makes it the oldest city hall in the country. Its beautiful exterior features a distinctive mix of styles. With a tall, ornate tower and angular roofing, it looks rather Gothic, but its largely symmetrical façade featuring slender pillars seems derived from classical architecture, while the row of multiple chimneys are distinctive traits of Dutch Renaissance.

Stunning both inside and out, the interior of the City Hall is just as gorgeous and splendid as its exterior. Sadly, as it is still an active seat of government, you won’t be able to enter the City Hall except on special occasions.
