City Hall

Feel like a Nobel Laureate at the venue that hosts the Peace Prize.

Home to one of the most prestigious annual ceremonies in the world, the City Hall in Oslo is a must visit for everyone. Every year, this municipal structure hosts the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony, and while you won’t be able to sit in for that, you will be able to walk through the halls that esteemed luminaries have once graced before. The City Hall comprises of two red brick towers, and was completed in 1950. On a regular basis, this is where the city council, administration, and other entities work from. The colourful interior is filled with Norwegian art and symbols of historical significance, a stark contrast to the solid structure of the exterior. Don’t forget to step into the great hall, filled with artwork depicting life in Norway, and the room in which the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony is held. Perhaps the experience will make you feel like a Nobel Laureate too.

Tips Before You Go
Guided tours are available during summer (June-August), and do not need to be booked beforehand. Admission is free as well, although you might not realise what it holds inside as the exterior is relatively nondescript. Do take some time to enjoy the flowers in the gardens here before you enter though, as they are absolutely delightful.
