City Gallery Wellington

An ever-changing line up for an ever-changing audience.

No two visits to the City Gallery Wellington are the same, presenting an exciting prospect for lovers of contemporary art.

Established in 1980, the City Gallery Wellington is now housed in a different building from when it was first opened. With constantly changing exhibitions occupying all 3,900 square metres of available space, the gallery is known to push for “art that makes you think”. Throughout its time of operation, the museum has held art exhibitions, digital storytelling, film screenings and even lectures. Among them, significant exhibitions have included Yayoi Kusama: Mirrored Years which had one of the highest attendance rate ever recorded since the gallery’s reopening, Parihaka: The Art of Passive Resistance and The Exhibition of the Century: Modern Masters from Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum. Exhibitions aside, there is also a 1 hour sculpture tour that is suitable for art lovers young and old and held all year round.
