A witness to many executions during WWII.

The Manila Chinese Cemetery is known as the second oldest of its kind in the capital city of Manila, after La Loma Cemetery and became the final resting spot for many Chinese who were not give proper burial in Catholic cemeteries during the colonial era under the Spanish. This site also became witness to many executions during the Second World War, including Girl Scouts organiser Josefa Llanes Escoda, Literary geniuses Manguel Anguilla and Rafael Roces and Filipino Brigadier General and hero during World War II and Boy Scouts of the Philippines charter member Vincente Lim. Several temples and memorials sit within the cemetery compound, including Chong Hock Tong Temple, which is the oldest Chinese temple in Manila, Liat See Tong or Martyrs Hall, built to honour Chinese community leaders executed by the Japanese during WWII, Carlos Palanca Memorial and the Ruby Tower Memorial.

Tips Before You Go
There is one street within the cemetery where the mausoleums are air conditioned and have bathrooms - so do come by to take a quiet stroll, it will be an eye-opening experience. Expect to spend about 45 minutes here.
