China Cove

Enjoy the tranquillity of the hidden cove.

Named after the bright pink China House that used to stand here, the China Cove is a cove with a pocket beach located in Point Lobos State Natural Reserve in Carmel, California. The soft white sand and blue-green calm waves are the perfect setting for visitors to just kick back and relax. In fact, you might even spot wildlife such as seals and whales if you’re lucky!

However, do take note that access to the beach is closed during the seal pupping season. This is to minimise any disturbances to the pups. To get to the cove, visitors can either hike their way there, or embark on the Bird Island Trail, which loops around the China Cove area. Regardless of the path you take, you will still end up in a lovely paradise.

Tips Before You Go
If you are hiking there, do look out for the poison oak which lie around the trails. They are characterised by their red leaves, and can give you a nasty rash if you get in contact with them. Do take note that there are no lifeguards here, and that there is a possibility of sudden riptides. As such, if you are not a strong swimmer, it is advised that you not swim at all.
