China Art Museum (中华艺术宫)

The Crown of the East.

The China Art Museum is a modern Chinese art museum, formerly known as the Shanghai Art Museum when it was first established in 1956. It boasts a collection of about 14,000 works of art spread over 27 exhibition halls. The stark red pavilion atop the museum costs approximately US$220 million to construct and is dubbed the "Crown of the East" because of its resemblance to an ancient crown. While the museum is free to enter, visitors need to make a booking two days before their intended day of visit. Note that it is closed on Mondays, except for recognized public holidays.
