Cheonggyecheon Stream (청계천)

Bringing natural beauty to a bustling city centre, Cheonggyecheon Stream is the perfect place for a retreat of the soul.

Before it was restored in 2005, Cheonggyecheon Stream was an inconspicuous waterway hidden by an overpass which was built after the Korean War between 1950 and 1953. Owing to an urban renewal project, Cheonggyecheon Stream now presents a delightful scene of natural beauty amidst the bustling city of Seoul. It is undoubtedly a wonderful place for a stroll or for one to simply relax amidst the trees and plants surrounding the riverbank, recharging one’s soul by listening to the calming sound of flowing waters. The 11-metres long stream flows through downtown Seoul, starting from Cheonggye Plaza and ending at the beautiful Hangang River. For those seeking a more lively ambience, the vibrant Lantern Festival would be the perfect time to visit with its beautiful array of hanging lanterns, its lights reflecting against the waters in a magical fashion.
