Make your way to the very heart of Delft.

The Markt sits at the heart of the quintessential Dutch down of Delft. As you walk along the cobblestoned pathways of the square and catch sight of gabled roofs in the backdrop of the light sky, this quaint setting is sure to appease to everyone. The town square offers not only respite and relaxation, but also a rich variety of Dutch architecture.


There’s something for everyone here: settle down at one of the many candle-lit cafés and watch people bustling past as you try some sweet Dutch treats like tompoes and stroopwafels.If you’re itching to get your hands on some pieces of Delftware, there are many stores selling these lovely pieces of pottery. To the west of the Markt, the City Hall building with its fine Renaissance structure calls for some Instagram action. While walking, don’t miss the iconic statue of Hugo de Groot, looking over to City Hall. The New Church (Nieuwe Kerk) competes for attention, with its Gothic tower rising well above the square. If sightseeing just isn’t to your liking, you can cycle along the wide canals in the area, or drop by one of the bakeries to enjoy some freshly baked bread.

Tips Before You Go
Every Thursday and Saturday between April and October, a large outdoor market is hosted here, and it’s a great place for antique lovers to look for unique items such as paintings and Delftware pottery.
