A royal park that is bound to entrance those who wander on its grounds.
Catherine Park at Tsarskoye Selo, St Petersburg, is so grand that you will be unsurprised to learn that it is part of the town’s royal residence. Oozing with regality, this park has two parts to it – the formal old garden otherwise known as the regular park and the landscape park, an English garden.
The regular park was established in 1720 by the Dutch landscape gardening experts. Among the main buildings of the regular park, notable ones there consist of the Upper bath, Lower bath, Hermitage and Hermitage Kitchen. The English garden also has its list of installations and some of the more exotic ones include the Pyramid, Gothic Gate, Marble Bridge and Ruin Tower.
This entire manicured park rests behind Catherine Palace, adorned with both natural beauty in the form of its flora and man-made beauty in the form of sculptures. With its symmetrical hedges and hexagonal and crescent shaped ponds, this park is a clear example of how applied geometry can result in true art. Head down to the Catherine Park and stroll through this entity, clearly fit for royalty soon!
