Catalina Island Museum

The California of days past.

Catalina Island – one of California’s best kept secrets, with its swaying palms, pristine waters and white sandy beaches. This romantic destination is only 22 miles off the Southern California Coast and embodies the picture-perfect paradise people generally envision sunny California to be. The Catalina Island Museum pays homage to the rich heritage and history of charming Catalina, and offers visitors from every walk of life the rare opportunity to seek edification as well as relaxation on one of America’s most beautiful islands.

Founded by the Wrigley family in 1953, the Catalina Island Museum originally found its home within the historic Catalina Casino building, but was later restored and relocated to its current site in 2016. Home to an extensive collection of beautifully engraved Catalina pottery and well-preserved documentations of island life dating from the early 1880s, the museum promises history buffs and museum lovers fascinating insight into the island’s unique history. As the sole repository for all archaeological digs on the island, the captivating museum also houses one of the largest collections of Tongva and Gabrielino artefacts in the world.
