Castelvecchio Bridge (Ponte Scaligero)

A bold and wondrous achievement of the Middle Ages.

Castelvecchio Bridge, also known as Ponte Scaligero, sits proudly over the Adige River and connects the medieval grounds of Castelvecchio to Adige’s left bank. Built in the 1st century A.D., the fortified bridge boasted the world’s largest span at the time of its construction. The impressive arch bridge was destroyed during World War II and later rebuilt using parts of the original structure. As you stroll along either side of the bridge, you will see not just a picturesque view of Adige River, but also remember the battled-filled past of the red-bricked and white-marbled bridge. Walk across the bridge on both sides for different perspectives and enjoy a romantic touch at night, when the city lights come on. Come experience for yourself the magnificence and wonder of Castelvecchio Bridge, a historic masterpiece not to be missed.
