Casa di Giulietta

Discover the origin of Shakespeare’s tale of a tragic love story.

The tragic love story of Shakespeare’s famed ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is brought to life at the ancient Casa di Giulietta. The quaint 13th century house, restored in 1996, was said to have inspired Shakespeare’s tale and some even consider it to be Juliet’s house. Although both the exterior and interior of the house are antique and worn-off, it remains a popular tourist attraction for people to capture photographs of the iconic balcony. The gold statue standing in front of the house is believed to bring good fortune to all who touch it. Visitors can choose to pay an entrance fee to enter the house, where the beautiful antique furniture from Zeffirelli’s 1968 film is exhibited, and where Renaissance costumes worn by actors in Goldwyn Meyers’ adaption of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ are displayed. Casa di Giulietta is definitely a must-visit for all Shakespeare lovers and for those who want to witness the origin of the iconic, heartbreaking tale of forbidden lovers.
