Casa Amatller

Where chocolate and architecture collided over a century ago.

For a great example of Catalan modernist architecture, head to Casa Amatller in Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona. Renovated by architect Josep Puig I Cadafalch from 1898-1900, this building was the residence of Antoni Amatller, a chocolatier whose brand was inspired by modernism. This influence is evident in its stunning stained-glass windows as well. The building followed the format of an urban Gothic style with its exterior, balconies and patio.

The architect also incorporated some Germanic elements. The Casa Amatller, along with its two neighboring buildings - Casa Batlló and Casa Lleó-Morera from the “block of discord”, are houses known for its modernist style. Head down to the Casa Amatller for the 1-hour guided tour and be amazed by this architectural wonder.
