Cabrillo National Monument

Enjoy beautiful views of San Diego in this historical national park.

Be treated to fantastic views over the San Diego harbor and skyline at the first place a European ever set foot on the American West Coast. The story of Cabrillo National Monument is one of exploration and discovery, which starts on September 28, 1542 when Juan Rodrigues Cabrillo landed on San Diego Bay. To commemorate this momentous occasion, the Cabrillo National Monument was established in 1913 and is now a thriving hub of history, culture and nature.

The rocky tidepools at the south of the monument contain miniature marine ecosystems. Each tidepool houses a wealth of marine life like various plants, starfish, sea urchins and crabs, providing hours of fascination for children and adults alike. You can also check out some of the lighthouses that dot the coastline, especially the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. As one of the first lighthouses in San Diego, it’s enjoyed many roles throughout history, its height making it perfect for being a radio signal tower and today, the best lookout point in the Cabrillo National Monument.
