A beautiful floral display and a designated National Historic Site of Canada.
The Butchers Gardens is a collective of floral gardens situated in Brentwood Bay, Canada, near Victoria on Vancouver Island. The popular gardens have seen a steady rise in visitors through the years, now receiving over a million visitors each year. It earned its title as a National Historic Site of Canada in 2004. The gardens were the handwork of Robert Pim Butchart and his wife, Jennie Butchart. While Mrs Butchart collected plants, her husband focused on ornamental birds worldwide - he started with having a parrot in his house, ducks in the Star Pond and peacocks roaming freely on the front lawn. He built birdhouses in the gardens, which can still be seen here today. The gardens also feature several bronze statues such as those of a wild boar, a donkey and a foal. In December 2009, the Children’s Pavilion and Rose Carousel were opened to the public and feature over thirty animals and native plant species. Other attractions that are bound to mesmerise you too include the Ross Fountain, Japanese Garden and Italian Garden.
