Experience traditional Korean culture at this quaint village of traditional houses.
Bukchon Hanok Village reflects 600 years of Seoul’s history. This historic neighbourhood was traditionally home to Seoul’s middle and upper-classes. Now, it is most famed for its clusters of beautiful, traditional houses called hanoks. Surrounded by Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace and Jongmyo Shrine, Bukchon Hanok Village is home to hundreds of hanoks that date back to the Joseon Dynasty. The neighborhood lies north of two significant Seoul landmarks, Cheonggyecheon Stream and Jongno. This is how the name ‘Bukchon’, which literally translates to ‘northern village’, came about. Today, many of these hanoks operate as cultural centers, guesthouses, restaurants and tea houses, providing visitors with an opportunity to experience, learn and immerse themselves in traditional Korean culture. Art fans will love exploring the many independent and private art galleries in the area.
