Buenos Aires Japanese Gardens (Jardin Japones)

Find a picturesque part of Japan in Buenos Aires.

This unassuming garden offers respite from the cacophony of the city, tucked away in the Basques de Palermo. The tranquil Japanese garden was built to coincide with the visit of present emperor and empress of Japan, Akihito and Michiko, after which the Japanese Embassy donated the garden to the city to express the gratitude of Japanese people who had made their home in Argentina.

Stepping into the gardens will transport you to another world entirely, with vast greenery greeting you at every corner, from the ubiquitous bonsai trees to gingko, sakura and black pine trees. The colourful Koi fish swimming about in the lagoon are often a source of delight for the children, who love to feed them. While crossing one of the prominent and iconic red bridges, the symbolism of passage from one world to another will surely ring true. Are you a plant lover? Head on to the nursery to get your hands on your very own bonsai plant, or gain a better understanding of the Japanese culture when you take part in traditional activities like origami and painting. Don’t miss out the Japanese tearoom, which offers a range of oriental brews in the morning and transforms into a restaurant offering authentic Japanese food, especially sushi. A visit to the garden is one that you shouldn’t miss!
