Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

When sightseeing in Singapore, why not soak up some up the local culture by learning about Buddhism at the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple? This Buddhist temple and museum is located in the Chinatown district of Singapore. Though the monument is relatively new, having been built in 2007, its design takes after the ancient Tang Dynasty style, making it marvellous to look at. Its indoors are equally stunning, with its comprehensive exhibits on Buddhist art and history that date back to almost a century ago sure to provide you with an insight into Buddhist culture.


The Buddha Tooth Relic, regarded as the left canine tooth of Buddha, is kept in a stupa made from 320kg of gold, and can only be viewed from a public viewing area. Within the building, there is the Eminent Sangha Museum, a theatre for performing arts, talks and film screenings, where you can catch a show. If you would like some peace and quiet for self-reflection, the roof garden is the perfect area for tranquillity. Open daily, make your visit smoother by going for one of the guided tours, which last for 2 hours.

Tips Before You Go
Do be mindful that this is a place of worship and as such, visitors are expected to dress modestly. Don\'t worry if you aren\'t dressed appropriately though, because the temple has shawls and robes for you to cover yourself up in. Try to wear socks with no holes too, as you are expected to remove your footwear if you plan on entering the prayer hall. Photographs are permitted within the compound, but not in the prayer hall. This is a must-visit if you wish to get a taste of spirituality in Singapore.
