Bronx Zoo

Take a break from the concrete jungle at the Bronx Zoo.

Although you will be hard-pressed to find animals roaming in the wild in the Big Apple, you can still get your fix at the Bronx Zoo - the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States. See real life baboons at the baboon reserve, but remember not to yawn as they can perceive that as aggression. You can also watch the friendly brown bears frolic in shallow water at the "Big Bears" reserve.

Young ones are not forgotten however, as there is a "Children's Zoo" exhibit dedicated to them. Similar to a petting zoo, you are allowed to get up close and personal with the likes of goats, sheep and even donkeys. However, do note that the zoo closes earlier during the colder months of November to April, so to avoid any disappointment, remember to check their opening hours before making a trip down.

Tips Before You Go
Comfortable shoes are a must here, seeing as it is the largest metropolitan zoo in the US. You can expect to do a lot of walking, and if your footwear isn\'t comfortable, then your experience here will be marred greatly. You might also want to bring your own food and water, as the options here are rather pricey. If you wish to save even more money, then visit on Wednesdays. Admission is free, with visitors recommended to donate however much they like. Do bear in mind that this makes Wednesday the most crowded day of the week though.
