Bow Falls

The film set location for Marilyn Monroe’s River of No Return.

The Bow Falls, situated in Banff, Canada, is a major waterfall along the Bow River in Alberta just before it meets the Spray River. It is wide and short in appearance but still beautiful nonetheless - you may feel some mist during the mid-summer due to the high water levels but be treated to a spectacle as you glimpse across the valley that was eroded by glacier activity and the Bow River over the years. In the vicinity sits the Banff Springs Hotel as well as the world renowned golf course on the left hand side of River Road. These facilities are well in walking distance away from the falls, so certainly do drop by for a visit if you happen to be in the area. Interestingly, the 1953 film River of No Return starring Marilyn Monroe featured the Bow Falls!

Tips Before You Go
You are advised to come during the off-peak season, from late-September to October, as the area can get pretty crowded with visitors. Preferably, you can drop by during the late afternoon or evening time when it is the quietest, providing you with absolute tranquility (how soul-soothing that will be!). For the adventurous ones, there is a trail that you can take from the town by walking along the south side of Bow River after the bridge eastward.
