Botanical Garden of Valencia

Escape from the city temporarily and lose yourself in a beautiful garden.

Much greater in size than any other ordinary garden and housing thousands of plant species, the Botanical Garden of Valencia is a place where you can be in the solitude of mother nature. The garden dates back to 1567, when it was founded by the University of Valencia for medicinal purposes. For almost three years, the garden was moved to various locations within the university before its present location. During the 1800s, the garden still served as a site of education as botany classes and experiments took place there. After several slightly tumultuous events, restoration works commenced in 1987 before the garden was made available to the public at the turn of the 21st century. A great biodiversity comprising species from different continents can now be found here. Presently, it provides a means for people to understand more about the world of fauna and existing conservation and sustainability efforts. It is the perfect place to visit with family and friends – or even to take a stroll by yourself – if you need a break from the city, and at a low cost! Educational and cultural activities and workshops are also available, making your trip to the garden even more worth it.

For those who are unable to visit the garden but would love to, they have a virtual tour available on their website. Also, cat lovers will be pleased to know that they have many friendly cats roaming around!
