Ten hectares of flowery loveliness.
The Botanic Garden of the Jagiellonian University was established in 1783 and comprises nearly ten hectares of green and flowery loveliness. The gardens offer fascinating exhibits of medicinal plants, endangered species of Polish flora and plants described in the Bible. The amazing orchid collection dates to the 1860s. For plant lovers, the gardens will leave you amazed with over a collection of about 6,000 species of plants. As one of Krakow’s protected landmarks, the gardens serve as a memorial to the science and art of horticulture in Poland. Visitors easily spend hours at this beautiful garden basking in its peaceful atmosphere, taking strolls along the pastures and ponds. Explore the ‘Palm House’, which features unique specimens of tropical plants from diverse climates including species of fig plants like cocoa and ginger. The Botanic Garden Museum showcases the history and culture of the gardens through plants retrieved from botanic expeditions in past centuries. During the summer, events such as ‘Music In A Garden’ and the ‘Garden Music Composer’s Competition’ are held.
