Bode Museum (Bode-Museum)

The most recognisable building in Museum Island, Berlin.

Located in the northern end of Museum Island in Berlin, the Bode Museum houses an impressive number of works from different eras. The concept of this art museum comes from the art historian Wilhelm von Bode (1845 – 1929), which this museum is named after in his honour. Walk to the entrance of the museum by crossing the Monbijoubrücke (Monbijou Bridge), and admire the neo-baroque style building, along with its distinct dome.

Inside, visitors will be treated to exhibits showcasing late Antique and Byzantine Art, sculptures and paintings from the 13th century, as well as a huge collection of medals and coins, which number to about 500,000! Other highlights of the museum include the antique Roman sarcophagi, the marbled Pazzi Madonna made by Donatello (1386 – 1466), and the Neoclassical Dancer sculpture by Antonio Canova (1757 – 1822).
