Black’s Beach

Don’t like being in the nude? This beach is not for you.

Black’s Beach is hidden in La Jolla town beside Torrey Pines State Beach.

Like most beaches, it is a popular sport for activities such as surfing, volleyball, and boogie boarding. However, that’s not the only reason why it’s famous – it is also a nude beach. Feel free to do anything you like so long as you remain in the northern portion of the area. Swim, jog, snorkel, you name it! Here’s a place where you can truly be yourself.

Although it is famed for being a nude beach, there are facts less known to the public. First, it got its name from the Black family who built and owned a horse farm on the land in the 1940s. It was never really successful, so the land was then sold and divided into what is still known today as the La Jolla Farms lots. Another fact about the beach is that it has always been known to be a prime spot for surfing, but this was only discovered not too long ago 1959! The secret behind Black’s Beach being the it spot for surfing is a “submarine canyon”, which is a steep-sided valley that is cut into the seabed.

Black’s Beach may be a great spot to experience and enjoy sports activities – while being in the nude, of course – but accessing it may not be that easy as it involves a steep climb.
