Big Talbot Island State Park

A bed of bones beside a winding ribbon of life.

Bleached fingers breaking through a casing of sand, it seems as though you’ve walked into the midst of the walking dead. Movie set this is not for this is Boneyard Beach, eponymous for the brittle and broken wooden stumps of salt washed oak and cedar carcasses which resemble skeletons stripped of flesh. A dozen or more creative angles exist to challenge the avid photographer to best interpret the sight before them as visitors walk down the shoreline.

Big Talbot Island State Park isn’t known for just its cemetery-come-alive beaches. As one of the intriguing islands off Florida’s northeastern coast, the park fiercely protects its marshes and woods. Paved bike paths, trails and boardwalks allow for an immersive experience with the untamed nature of the park which would have marine biologists and environmental enthusiasts clapping with joy.
