Visit the fictionalized Game of Thrones’ city of Qarth in Croatia.
Game of Thrones fans, have you ever wanted to visit the city of Qarth? Well, good news for you – it does exist. On the island of Lokrum in Croatia lies the Benedictine Monastery, where the scenes for Qarth on the popular show were shot. The monastery was built at the start of the 11th century and abandoned by the monks in 1798. Legend has it that the monks put a curse on the island due to a French army general banishing the Benedictines and closing down the monastery, stating that whoever took the island for their own pleasure would be damned. Today, the public can visit the abandoned site, and even dine in the restaurant at the back of the monastery. Just be careful though, because if the island really is cursed, then you might just end up like every other Game of Thrones character.
